Boeing is inspecting its flight test fleet after a component between the engine and the airplane structure was found to have issues.
A spokesperson for the US aircraft manufacturer said: ""During scheduled maintenance, we identified a component that did not perform as designed. Our team is replacing the part and capturing any learnings from the component and will resume flight testing when ready.""
No near-term flight tests were planned on the other 777X flight test aircraft, which have scheduled maintenance and other activities. In addition, the part was custom to the 777-9 and that each 777-9 engine includes two of such component, meaning there is redundancy, according to the company.
The FAA are being kept fully informed on the issue as have its customers.
According to its orders and deliveries, Boeing has 540 orders for the 777X aircraft. The data recognises 262 of those belonging to Emirates. However, in its November 2023 order at the Dubai Airshow for 55 additional 777-9s and 35 777-8s, the airline had recognised 205 777X units in total. Emirates ordered 150 of the units in 2014 at the Dubai Airshow.
The 777X has been delayed significantly. The current delivery scheduled for the 777X is slated for sometime next year.
