The European Commission has cleared Boeing's $4.7bn deal to acquire Spirit AeroSystems after the US aircraft manufacturer agreed to divest certain businesses.
Boeing offered to sell all of Spirit's businesses that currently supply Airbus with aerostructures and Spirit's sites in Malasyia, which currently supply Airbus, among others.
“These structural commitments fully address the competition concerns identified by the Commission,” the antitrust body said in a statement.
“They will enable Airbus to integrate Spirit's businesses that currently supply aerostructures to Airbus into Airbus' own operations, and hence secure its supply chain.”
The Commission concluded that the deal would “no longer raise competition concerns”.
The deal was disclosed in July last year. Airbus will take control over certain Spirit businesses as part of the deal. Boeing had offered concessions to the regulator last month.
