Boeing has confirmed that it has signed an agreement with Iran Air, which expresses the airline’s intent to buy its aircraft.
The US manufacturer issued a statement to The Associated Press saying that it signed the Iran Air agreement “under authorizations from the U.S. government following a determination that Iran had met its obligations under the nuclear accord reached last summer.”
“Boeing will continue to follow the lead of the U.S. government with regards to working with Iran’s airlines, and any and all contracts with Iran’s airlines will be contingent upon U.S. government approval,” it said.
No further details have been released but the airline has stated before that it would like to order 737NG/Max and 777-300ERs. The deal is expected to be as much as $25bn at list price.
Although this announcement shows a deal in principle, any firm transaction would need specific clearance from the US Treasury.
