British Airways cabin crew have voted to strike again. Of the 10,220 members Unite balloted, 5,751, or 78.5% of valid voters, said they were willing to take further strike action. But an increasing number aren't, with 1,579 members, or 21.5%, voting against a walk out.
BA has disputed these numbers however and claims of the 13,500 crew, only 43% voted in favour of strike action in this ballot – mainly due to the fact that Unite has lost about 2,500 cabin crew members since this dispute started.
Unite has not yet announced any strike dates ostensibly because they are seeking to downplay the move because of the lack of public support. The lack of any fixed dates for action has the potential to impact BA bookings.
Shares in the newly merged International Consolidated Airlines Group – comprising BA and Iberia – begin trading in London and Madrid today.
