Azerbaijan Airlines to add new A320neos and 787s to ramp its fleet

Azerbaijan Airlines is all set to add new Airbus A320neos and Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner as a part of its fleet modernisation strategy. The airline already has both types of aircraft in its fleet but will add more aircraft as it replenishes its fleet through 2030. The airline however did not give any details on the number of aircraft or delivery details.

The airline fleet includes three A319s, six A320s, three A320neos and two A340s along with three 757s, two 767s, one 777 and two 787s with an average age of 12.4 years.  The six A320s with an average age of 16.5 years while the A319s are 17.2 years making them the ideal choice for replacement with the new A320neos.

During the 2022 Farnborough International Airshow, the airline signed an MoU to purchase four Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners due to be delivered between 2025 and 2030. The airline claims that it will benefit significantly by switching routes to A320neos, from passenger experience, operating cost, and emissions-reduction perspectives.

The airline recently announced twice-weekly new routes to three Russian destinations, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Samara. Earlier in January the airline announced plans to start flights between Baku and Kazakhstan's largest city Almaty.

Azerbaijan Airlines is also opening twice weekly flights to the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, from March 16, 2023.
