Avolon orders 90 Airbus jets

Avolon ordered 90 jets with Airbus, the lessor said on July 24, 2025. The order now brings its Airbus commitments to 413 aircraft.

The order consists of 75 A321neo aircraft and 15 A330neo aircraft, with deliveries scheduled out to 2033.

“This order demonstrates our strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft,” said Avolon CEO Andy Cronin. “Our scale and balance sheet position us to support our airline customers' expansion and replacement needs into the next decade. Both the A321neo and A330neo are in high demand, and we expect this to continue given the long-term growth trajectory for the aviation sector.”

Airbus EVP sales of commercial aircraft Benoit de Saint-Exupery commented: “Lessors are excellent barometers of the aircraft market, and we are grateful to Avolon for expanding its commitment for the A320 Family and A330neo, so soon after an earlier order two years ago."

The order comes on the same day as the company’s second quarter financials, increases Avolon’s Airbus commitments to 413 aircraft, comprising exclusively of A320neo family and A330neo new technology aircraft. The order includes purchase rights in respect of a further 25 A321neos, and options to purchase a further 15 A330neos.

This is a firm aircraft order subject only to approval by shareholders of Bohai Leasing, Avolon’s 70% shareholder, which is anticipated before the end of August 2025.

During the second quarter of the year Avolon posted a net income of $143 million, an increase of 36% when compared to the same three-month period of the year prior.

The lessor also reported an 18% increase in lease revenue, totalling $678 million. Total available liquidity amounted to $8.8bn at the end of the second quarter, including $384 million of unrestricted cash and $7.2bn in undrawn debt facilities.

Avolon generated an operating cashflow of $464 million during the period, up 16% on the same quarter of last year.

“The momentum in our performance has been reflected in ratings upgrades, with the agencies recognising our growing profitability, balance sheet strength, and high levels of liquidity as fundamental strengths underpinning our business,” said Andy Cronin, Avolon CEO. “With our near term orderbook almost fully placed, and a high level of contracted aircraft sales, today’s order for 90 aircraft extends our committed fleet out to 2033.”

During the second quarter, the company acquired 15 aircraft, sold 20, and ended the period with 54 aircraft agreed for sale.

By the end of June, Avolon had an owned, managed and committed fleet of 1,166 aircraft, including orders and commitments for 532 fuel-efficient, new technology aircraft.
