Avianca is planning to add ten A320neo aircraft in the next month and close the year with a fleet of 150 aircraft. By adding new planes and seats to its fleet the airline is aiming to move beyond the pandemic crisis and Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.
Speaking about the new planes, Adrian Neuhauser, Chief Executive Officer, Avianca said: “Today, it is time to look to the future to continue putting our operation at the service of Colombia and Latin America. For this reason, we sought and obtained additional aircraft; we summoned 730 experts, including pilots, crew members, service agents, dispatchers, and maintenance technicians, and with this in place, we are awaiting the equitable allocation of slots in accordance with the RAC, to really make sustainable tourism growth in the region.”
“With the new incoming ten aircraft the Avianca will be prepared to meet the demand in the upcoming peak seasons,” the airline said in a statement.
Avianca is currently in talks with various lessors for the new fleet. Additionally, Avianca has a standing order with Airbus. According to Airbus’ latest Orders and Deliveries database, Avianca has ordered 163 planes, of which it has received 75, meaning it has an unfilled order of 88 planes, all of them A320neo.
