Austrian Airlines recently received its second Airbus A320neo aircraft as a part of its narrow-body fleet renewal plan. The new aircraft will undergo cabin refurbishment and a paint job over the next few weeks before commencing commercial operations.
To modernise and renew its short-to-medium haul fleet, the airline plans to add about four A320neos by mid-2023. The airline received its first A320 in September 2022 and plans to add two more by early next year.
Austrian plans to use these aircraft on premium continental routes including destinations like London, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt. The first A320neo started commercial service on October 20, 2022, with a flight to London, and the second plane is scheduled to perform its first flight in December 2022.
According to Airbus, the latest generation A320 is 20% more fuel-efficient and 50% quieter and it comes with an Airspace cabin providing more personal space and large hand luggage capacity.
