Regional Express (Rex) has been given the cleared of any wrongdoing by Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) which rejected the allegations of a disgruntled engineer and his union about the carrier's safety record.
The CASA received a report which alleged that Rex was lax in its safety regulations and pressured its maintenance crew not to report defects.
In response to the decision, Rex welcomed the result, which it said "unequivocally rejects the scurrilous allegations".
A statement from Rex said: “The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has confirmed it has no current issues with the safety of Rex aircraft.
“Rex maintenance engineering staff were randomly selected by CASA and interviewed. All of them said that they felt confident in reporting maintenance errors or defects, and they indicated Rex operated according to ‘just culture’ principles.
"Rex's management will now be able to focus its attention exclusively to providing our passengers with a safe and reliable air service," the airline adds.
