Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson world's busiest airport for second consecutive year

Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) was the world's busiest airport during 2024, offering 62.7 million seats over the 12-month period. 

This is the second year in a row that the American airport has been named the busiest. Airline capacity at ATL increased by 2% compared to 2023 and was below 2019 levels by 1%, according to data from travel data provider OAG.

Atlanta acts as Delta Air Lines' largest hub by passenger volume and serves a total of 23 airlines. 

Dubai International Airport (DXB) was the world's second busiest airport during 2024, offering 60.2 million seats. The Middle Eastern hub saw capacity grow by 7%, in comparison to traffic data from 2023, and has grown by 12% since 2019.

As the world's third busiest airport for the year, Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) offered 55.2 million seats, representing a capacity increase of 5% when compared to 2023.

OAG identified that the geographic distribution of the world's ten busiest airports was broad with four being based in North America, three in Asia, two in Europe and one in the Middle East.
