Dublin-headquartered ASL Aviation Holdings and California-based Reliable Robotics Corporation said they are to jointly explore using automated aircraft.
According to a statement released on December 15, the two companies "will select a suitable aircraft for Reliable’s Remotely Operated Aircraft System with initial focus on large twin engine turboprop freighters" and will "jointly assess" European demand for remotely controlled aircraft.
The transatlantic tie-up was described by ASK director Hugh Flynn as "anchored on a common purpose to fully evaluate how remote and single pilot technologies can be developed and used to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective cargo and passenger services".
Myles Goeller, chief business officer of Reliable Robotics, said he sees "urgent market demand for automated systems that will enhance safety, increase utilization of aircraft assets and support sustainability goals".
