Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) has begun services on its ANA Green Jet, a special aircraft developed to raise awareness, promote sustainable practices, and reduce CO2 emissions. The new aircraft recently took flight on the Tokyo Haneda-San Francisco route. A total of two such aircraft will enter service, with the second aircraft expected to take flight in November 2022.
ANA President and CEO, Shinichi Inoue, said: “Our goal is to create a more sustainable society while helping our local communities and enhancing corporate value and we have dedicated this aircraft to help promote these efforts. Utilizing the technological advances currently available and investing in new solutions, ANA is working hard to create a safe, efficient, and sustainable operation."
The ANA Green Jet features a special livery with ANA Future Promise (AFP) initiative that highlights the Group’s environmental and social responsibilities. ANA states that the aircraft is made of a special material developed by Nikon Corporation, which is expected to have a "shark skin effect" with its riblet texture. This will aid ANA to study the decrease in air resistance and CO2 emission reduction of the aircraft, as well as the material's durability and technology.
