American Airlines is planning to add more than 25 daily flights this winter from the Phoenix SkyHarbour International airport after a hiatus of more than three years. The airline will also introduce a new route to Jacksonville, Florida, and is set to resume flights to Wichita, Kansas, after more than three years.
This announcement comes on the backdrop of American Airlines revealing new service from Washington DC and more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline will add flights to 26 existing routes this November.
Speaking on the focus on winter schedule, Sophia Philis-Ortiz, Vice President of PHX Hub Operations said: “Although we’ve not yet reached the halfway point of the summer travel season, we’re already focusing on how we can best serve our customers this winter. Thanks to the additional flight offerings, we will be providing additional seat capacity that allows us to welcome more customers in Phoenix than we did last winter.”
The flight additions represent an increase of more than 12% and a seat capacity boost of nearly 4% of seats compared to last year.
“American’s announcement of their largest winter schedule in nearly a decade is wonderful news and it really speaks to their continued confidence in the Phoenix market,” said Chad Makovsky, Director, Aviation Services, City of Phoenix Aviation Department.
American will launch one daily nonstop flight to Jacksonville, making the city its fourth nonstop destination starting November 5, 2023 deploying its A320 on the route.
The airline will also resume services to Wichita and the route will be operated by American’s contracted regional partner SkyWest Airlines, flying under the American Eagle brand.
