American Airlines signs A320ceo retrofit agreement with Airbus
American Airlines has signed what it terms a ‘sizeable’ agreement with Airbus for its 150-strong A320ceo family of aircraft, encompassing multiple avionics systems and airframe upgrades. “These retrofits support the airline’s modernization and simplification of its fleet through avionics and systems upgrades, which in turn provide even greater operational excellence,” explained Antoine Morel, vice president and head of airframe services for Airbus. Avionics improvements to the A320ceos include the latest generation of weather radar and a new satellite-based augmentation system multi mode receiver (SBAS MMR), which will enable the latest GPS-based satellite navigation systems for precision landings and the latest Air Traffic Services Units (ATSU) standard. Additionally, airframe upgrades will include component and airframe life extension under Airbus’ extended service goal packages.
