American Airlines has received its first A321XLR, but the aircraft remains at Airbus’ Hamburg facility due to seat-related supply chain delays.
A spokesperson from American told Airline Economics that the aircraft will remain in Europe until these challenges are resolved.
“We look forward to adding the A321XLR to our fleet later this year, allowing us to continue growing our international flying and build the best network for our customers,” the spokesperson added.
The aircraft will be fitted with 20 suites and 12 premium economy seats.
American Airlines has ordered 50 of these A321XLR jets, originally planning to receive them between 2023 and 2025, but all deliveries have been pushed back.
Once operational, American will use its A321XLRs on US transatlantic routes.
The airline confirmed that the delay in bringing the aircraft into service is not related to US tariffs.
