American Airlines launch daily nonstop Miami-British Virgin Islands route

American Airlines has launched daily nonstop service from Miami to the British Virgin Islands from June 1. The three-hour flight is the first nonstop US to British Virgin Islands route since 1980s.

The launch of this flight means travelers no longer have to connect through Puerto Rico or St. Thomas in the US.

The last direct flight, also from Miami, was operated by the British Caribbean Airways, which ceased operations in October 1986.

The American flight will operate on the route till August 14and then resume in November.

The new air service is expected to bring in an estimated 2,128 monthly passengers to the islands, according to British Virgin Islands Tourist Board and Film Commission.
