American Airlines extends grounding period until 2 Nov

American Airlines has one again extended the grounding period for its Boeing 737 Max aircraft, now continuing until 2 Nov.

With this news, American follows in the footsteps of United Airlines which extended its grounding period for Boeing’s 737 Max jets until 3 November and Southwest who decided not to run 737 Max flights until 1 October.

A statement from American said: "We remain confident that impending software updates to the Boeing 737 Max, along with the new training elements Boeing is developing in coordination with our union partners, will lead to recertification of the aircraft this year. We are in continuous contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other regulatory authorities."

In total, approximately 115 flights per day will be cancelled through to 2 Nov.
