Air Line Pilots Association, the union representing United pilots, has acted in court to block United Continental Holdings from implementing its latest phase of revised operating procedures associated with the merger between United Airlines and Continental Airlines. The union asked a federal court in New York for an injunction to postpone the current training regime and implementation of new rules. United Continental said in a statement that its highest priority is to the safety of co-workers and customers. "Our training procedures, which are fully approved and closely monitored by the FAA, meet or exceed safety standards, and we are a safe airline," a spokeswoman said. "This lawsuit…is a shameful effort to influence negotiations for a joint collective bargaining agreement, under a false guise of safety." She went on to say that the lawsuit "is entirely without merit, and we fully expect the court will find these claims to be groundless.
