Allegiant October traffic falls due to "outsized impact" of hurricanes

Allegiant has cited that hurricanes Helene and Milton placed an “outsized impact” on the company, as October operating figures see a significant drop in comparison to the same month of 2023.

During October, Allegiant carried a total of 1.17 million passengers, a decrease of 17% when looking at the comparable period of the year prior. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) similarly saw a decrease, dropping by 15.7%, while available seat miles (ASMs) saw a fall of 10.2%, in comparison to October of last year.  Additionally, load factor decreased by 5.2 percentage points compared to the same period of 2023.

Drew Wells, chief commercial officer of Allegiant Travel Company commented:  "As observed below and consistent with commentary from our third quarter earnings call, hurricanes Helene and Milton had an outsized impact on our business.”

He continued: "We cancelled nearly 1,000 flights between late September and early January, with approximately two-thirds of those cancelations occurring during the month of October. We are encouraged by booking trends following the election, which suggest a faster-than-expected recovery for the impacted areas.”

These operating results for October follow a fall in Allegiant’s consolidated operating revenue for the third quarter of year, which was posted on October 30, 2024, and showed revenues drop by 0.6% to $562.2 million, in compared to the same period of the previous year.

Allegiant will continue to monitor market trends with the intent of updating guidance, if needed.
