Alaska Airlines to enter European market with direct Rome service next year

Alaska Airlines is set to commence a new service between Seattle and Rome, the first time a direct air connection will operate between the two cities.

Flights are expected to commence in May 2026, with Alaska set to operate the route four times per week.

The Seattle-based carrier's new European service will be operated by Alaska's 787-9 aircraft, which are part of the company’s combined fleet of aircraft after its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines last year.

“Rome has been at the top of the list ever since we announced our new global gateway out of Seattle,” said Ben Minicucci, Alaska Airlines CEO. “Our guests have been asking for an easy way to get to Italy for years, and we’re thrilled to provide it to people in the Northwest and beyond.”

Most recently Alaska has launched a new international route to Tokyo's Narita International Airport last month and plans to start service to Seoul in September.

Alaska is planning to introduce a range of long-haul international destinations through the end of the decade from Seattle.
