An Alaska Airlines 737 aircraft's windshield cracked during its descent on the night of March 17, 2024. Flight 9 was flying from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in Arlington, Virginia to Portland International Airport (PDX) in Portland, Oregon.
A spokesperson for the airline said the crack was in its inner windshield and was ""minor"", adding that the 737 fleet is outfitted with five-layer windscreens so that if an inner pane cracks, cabin pressure can be maintained.
The statement said: ""The crew followed their checklists and the aircraft continued safely to its destination as scheduled.""
The aircraft is currently being inspected and repaired. It is a minor addition to the Alaska and Boeing saga that began on January 5 when a door plug blew out of a 737-9 aircraft with a subsequent investigation launched by the Federal Aviation Administration.
