Airlink has initiated a response following the 7.8 earthquake that struck Ecuador on Saturday evening. We now know that the quake took the lives of more than 350 people - a number that is expected to rise considerably with more than 2,500 injured and many more still missing in the rubble.
Airlink, in partnership with United Airlines, has already assisted two nonprofit organizations in their response efforts, including support for a four-person disaster assistance response team (DART) from All Hands Volunteers, and personnel from Waves for Water who will be assisting affected populations with access to clean water.
As needs assessments trickle in from the field, we anticipate that many other Airlink partners will find need for transportation for both aid cargo and personnel over the coming days. Airlink will continue working with its airline partners in this response, including AeroMexico, Avianca, JetBlue, and United, to assist in relief efforts, and is currently evaluating charter options into the region.
You can help us make a bigger impact by making a one-time gift or donating United miles. If your organization can help Airlink respond, please contact us at (202) 480-9241 or ops@airlinkflight.org.
