Airspace over Israel, Iran, Iraq and Jordan was closed on June 13, 2025, after Israeli strikes on targets in Iran forced airlines to reroute, divert and cancel flights.
Hours after the Israeli strikes, Iran launched more than 100 drones in retaliation, with a second round of more than 100 drones launched shortly after that.
Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv was closed and Israel's air defence units stood on high alert for possible retaliatory strikes from Iran. El Al suspended flights to and from the country, as did many European carriers, such Air Europa, Aegean Airlines and Wizz Air.
Airlines worldwide already have services suspended to Israel, with many now extending these suspensions. The initial suspensions were introduced following a missile strike near Ben Gurion Airport at the beginning of May.
Ryanair said that the airline will now return to Israel in September at the earliest, extending its suspension of flights by one month. Similarly, the Lufthansa Group said it will now return to Israel in August. The airline group has originally planned to return to Tel Aviv on June 15, 2025.
Following these latest strikes, Emirates has cancelled all services to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iran until June 16, 2025., with fellow Dubai-based carrier flydubai said has suspended flights to Amman, Beirut, Damascus, Iran and Israel.
