Airbus expects to finalise an agreement to acquire parts of US aerostructures manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems, with the signing of the deal targeted for the end of April.
An Airbus spokesperson told Airline Economics that the announcement was made by the company’s chief financial officer, Thomas Toepfer, to shareholders at Airbus' annual general meeting (AGM) in Amsterdam on April 15, 2025.
Toepfer expects to close the deal by the beginning of July, with an assumption of July 1, 2025, as the date of targeted closing.
Additionally, he stated that there is “no expectation” that tariffs would impact the two parties reaching an agreement on the transaction.
In July 2024, Airbus entered into a binding term sheet with Spirit AeroSystems to acquire operations related to the production of A350 fuselage sections in Kinston, North Carolina and St. Nazaire, France, A220 wings and mid-fuselage in Belfast and Casablanca along with A220 pylons in Kansas.
This is part of a rare joint carve-up of the troubled aerostructures supplier alongside US rival Boeing.
