airBaltic is planning to expand its fleet with at least 30 more single-aisle jets by exercising its current contractual options with Airbus, but only if its Initial Public Offering (IPO) succeeds, Reuter reports.

airBaltic initially aimed to position itself for a stock market debut with a view to an IPO later this autumn, which has now postponed to Q3 of 2024.

Since the planned IPO is still in the works until late next year, airBaltic has yet to fully reveal the valuation it would put on itself or how much could potentially be raised. But what is certain is that if the fresh equity from the IPO gets successfully secured as planned, the airline will be in a better financial position to take in more aircraft and progress further towards its aim to house a 100 aircraft fleet by 2030.

Speaking to Reuters, Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer, airBaltic said: “Airline is looking to purchase about 30 Airbus A220s by firming up its existing contractual options with Airbus. Going beyond current options, airBaltic will take at least 20 more aircraft, giving it the potential to grow its fleet to 100 Airbus A220s as envisioned.”
