airBaltic expects up to 7.5% rise in passenger numbers in second quarter

Preliminary results for the second quarter of the year show that airBaltic passenger numbers are expected to increase by between 6-7.5%, compared to the same period last year.

The airline reported that operations across the Baltics remained stable, with consistent performance throughout its network. Despite challenges such as engine availability, all operational indicators continued to meet expectations.

Ticket yields for the quarter are expected to stabilise between –1.5% and -0.5% compared to the second quarter of 2024, indicating an improvement after what airBaltic described as “challenging market conditions” during the winter season.

In addition, revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) is forecast to grow by 2.5-4% in 2024, supported by “stable demand” and “improved pricing”, with load factor during the quarter averaging at between 79% to 81%.

The airline also noted that forward bookings for the third quarter of the year are currently 3% ahead of the same period of last year, with capacity still available.

Due to a stable performance in the second quarter and positive indicators for the third quarter, airBaltic is maintaining its full-year guidance of carrying 5.2 to 5.4 million passengers.

This outlook is supported by a 3% increase in network capacity and a 20% rise in aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) operations.
