Air India is in talks with both Airbus and Boeing for an aircraft order of around 200 narrowbody aircraft, Reuters reported, citing industry sources.
The media outlet noted that two sources confirmed that this narrowbody order could involve hundreds of new planes spread across various sizes, expanding on previously reported discussions for additional widebody aircraft.
In the past two years the airline has placed two significant aircraft orders, including 470 jets from both suppliers in 2023 and 100 Airbus aircraft last year.
Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister, said that recent record aircraft orders from the country’s airlines are “just the beginning” the country’s aviation market.
“Indian carriers have placed orders for more than 2,000 new jets and that's just a start,” Modi commented, speaking at IATA’s airline industry summit in New Delhi.
