Air India aims 300% growth in annual cargo capacity in next five years

Air India is aiming for a 300% growth in annual cargo capacity to reach two million tonnes within the next five years. To achieve this, the airline will be adding new wide body aircraft to its fleet this year onwards with more incoming aircraft 2025 onwards.

Air India in collaboration with its joint venture partner SATS, will make significant investments in airport and logistics infrastructure to support this expansion. The airline is also exploring the possibility of increasing freighter capacity through partnerships.

The airline’s recent order includes widebody aircraft like A350-1000, A350-900, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and Boeing 777X which will boost the airline’s annual cargo capacity.

With the Indian Government planning to grow India’s cargo industry to 10 million tonnes by 2030, Campbell Wilson, chief executive and managing director, Air India eyes significant potential in India’s air cargo industry.
