Air France has announced it will accelerate the growth of its LCC subsidiary, Transavia France, in a bid to increase its share of the European budget traveller market.
CEO Alexandre de Juniac told a press conference last week that the Air France-KLM Group's new Perform 2020 five year restructuring plan will focus on maintaining its position in the long-haul sector while consolidating its short-haul European market share.
De Jauniac said: “The idea is to be in the leading group of European low-cost carriers, given that aviation is a business where size is important."
Air France also plans to consolidate its short-haul point-to-point operations with those of regional subsidiary HOP! which, while still functioning as a single business entity, will operate as two distinct brands.
