Global air cargo spot rates rose by 4% during the first week of December to a 2024 high of $3.50 per kilo, driven by a 9% increase from Asia-Pacific origins.
WorldACD figures show that average spot rates from Asia Pacific origins rose to $4.86 per kilo during the first week of the month, an increase of 19% in comparison to the same week of the year prior.
Spot rates from African origins also saw an increase, up 12% in comparison to data from the week prior, partly in response to a surge in traffic to European markets.
Global tonnages were stable, increasing only slightly by 1% in comparison to the previous week, driven by a 14% increase in rebound volumes from North American origins, following the Thanksgiving holiday period in the US.
