Air Canada has implemented changes to its baggage policy, introducing carry-on baggage fees for basic economy fare ticket holders starting January 3, 2025.
The Canadian airline will implement additional charges for cabin baggage for basic fare ticket holders on North American routes, with larger items, such as duffel bags or large backpacks having to be checked pre-security and will be imposed with standard fees of C$35 ($24.88) for one bag and C$50 ($35.54) for a second bag.
Additionally, beginning January 21, 2025, customers travelling on the revised basic fare who wish to change their seat from the one automatically generated at check-in will be required to pay for that change, with that fee being determined by the new seat chosen.
“These changes align the airline's fare structure with similar fare offerings by other Canadian carriers and better distinguish its fare brands,” said the airline in a statement.
The Canadian flag carrier also reiterated that these changes are in line with “Industry standard.”
