Air Canada Express flight suffers suspected landing gear issue upon landing in Halifax

An Air Canada Express flight experienced a “suspected landing gear issue” upon landing at Halifax International Airport on December 28, 2024.

The aircraft, a de Havilland DHC-8-402, was operated by Air Canada Express’ partner airline pal Airlines and was travelling from St John’s International Airport in Newfoundland to Halifax.

A number of news outlets have reported that passengers on-board Air Canada Express flight 2259 saw fire from the left side of the plane upon landing, with smoke coming through the windows of the aircraft.

In a statement, Halifax International Airport noted that its airfield remained closed for 90 minutes after the plane landed, with four flights being diverted, in addition to a number of cancellations and delays while the airfield was closed.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) deployed a team of investigators following the incident. The TSB is set to gather information and assess the occurrence of the accident.
