Air Canada and ITA Airways have entered a codeshare agreement, which will aim to enhance connectivity between Canada and Italy.
Under the agreement, Air Canada will place its ‘AC’ operating code on routes operated by ITA Airways from Rome-Fiumicino. These include destinations primarily in Italy and Africa.
Similarly, ITA Airways will place its ‘AZ’ operating code on routes operated by Air Canada from Toronto Pearson to destinations within Canada and the US.
“With work underway to facilitate ITA Airways’ entry into Star Alliance, we are developing significant partnership synergies," said Mark Galardo, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, and president, cargo at Air Canada. "This will form the foundation for a strong, long-term relationship between our two flag-carrying airlines.”
ITA Airways, now part of the Lufthansa Group, has been cleared to join Star Alliance in 2026, following a vote by airline executives earlier this year.
Air Canada requested the US Department of Transportation (DOT) approve this codeshare agreement with ITA Airways in June, stating that it would enable the Italian airline’s passengers to explore additional options when traveling between the European Union (EU) and North America.
Sales of codeshare tickets are now open for travel commencing on July 21, 2025.
