AirAsia X (AAX) carried close to 3.9 million passengers during 2024, an increase of 41% on the year prior, with the airline citing the reactivation of additional aircraft and increased flight frequencies across its network.
The low-cost carrier released full year and fourth quarter preliminary operating results on February 13, 2025, which showed that the Kuala Lumpur based airline saw seat capacity on its flights increase by 35% in 2024.
Load factor averaged at 83% for the year, up three percentage points from the previous year.
During the year’s fourth quarter, AAX carried 1.06 million passengers, up by 20% in comparison to the year prior. Seat capacity for the three-month period also saw an increase of 20% in comparison to 2023. Load factor was flat at 82%.
During the years fourth quarter, AAX commenced new services to Chongqing, China and Nairobi.
Additionally the airlines Thai subsidiary, Air Asia X Thailand (TAAX), carried 1.6 million passengers during 2024, up 21% from the year prior. This is in line with a 21% increase in seat capacity. TAAX’s load factor was also 83% for the year.
During the fourth quarter of the year, TAAX carried 463 thousand passengers, up 26% on the year prior.
The subsidiary added two A330s to its operations during the year, with its fleet increasing from 8 to 10 aircraft. The airline served a total of eight routes, across markets such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, China and India.
