AFI KLM E&M announces 101st repair of LEAP-1A, LEAP-1B engines

Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) has inducted its 101st CFM LEAP-1A and -1B engines for repair.

Prior to the 101st milestone, the MRO provider’s recent inductions include replacement of high-pressure turbine (HPT) blades, shrouds, life limited parts (LLP), radial drive shafts, reverse bleed system (RBS) work scopes, and performance restoration shop visits (PRSV).

The repairs were completed at AFI KLM E&M’s facilities in Orly, France, and Schiphol, the Netherlands.

At both shops, the company said it currently offers “extensive” slot availability, and is ramping up to handle up to 300 LEAP engines annually.

The 101st repair milestone follows the announcement that AFI KLM E&M has entered into exclusive negotiations with AerCap to form a joint venture for LEAP engine leasing.

Revealed at the Paris Air Show in June this year, the joint venture aims to create a shared pool of LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines, enhancing support for Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX 8 operators.
