Aeromexico has been ranked the world’s most on-time airline for 2024, according to data released by aviation analytics firm Cirium.
The Mexican flag carrier achieved an on-time performance (OTP) of 86.72%, marking an increase of 9.19% in comparison to results that were recorded during the year prior.
Saudia ranked second with an OTP rate of 86.2%, signifying a 5% improvement compared to the previous year. Delta Air Lines ranked third globally and the best in North America, operating 1.6 million flights annually with an on-time rate of 83.69%.
Jeremy Bowen, Cirium CEO, emphasised that 2024 was a “difficult year” for airlines, citing July's CrowdStrike IT outage and extreme weather as challenging factors for airlines. “Despite these challenges, airlines and airports have worked tirelessly to ensure their customers have a smooth journey and reach their destination on-time,” Bowen noted.
In Europe, Iberia Express led the region with an OTP of 84.5%, while South African carrier Safair was the most punctual when looking at the Middle East and Africa, with an OTP of 93.92%. Japan Airlines was the most on-time airline in the Asia-Pacific region at 81.48%, and Copa Airlines topped Latin America with an OTP of 88.2%.
Cirium also highlighted Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport (RUH) as the airport with the most on-time flights in 2024, with 86.58% of its flights operating to schedule.
