AEROFLOT SUES CLARIANT FOR FAILING TO SUPPLY ENOUGH DEICER

Aeroflot has sued Swiss firm Clariant International for $4 million in damages because it alleges the company failed to provide enough de-icer chemicals, which caused four days of disrupted flights at Sheremetyevo Airport from December 25 to December 28.

About 200 flights were delayed after freezing rain coated planes and runways as Sheremetyevo, Aeroflot's hub. Freezing weather caused the airport to use its monthly supply of de-icer in just three days.

High demand prevented Clariant from supplying the de-icer, but it said it had not aware of any legal action from the Russian airline.

Meanwhile Sheremetyevo Airport head Mikhail Vasilenko has blamed Aeroflot for the problems because, he said, the airline failed to have enough product for its needs.
