Aer Lingus flights at Manchester face disruption as staff ballot strike action

Aer Lingus check-in staff and cabin crew are being balloted on strike action after rejecting the airline's latest pay offer.

The workers' representative, Unite, said there will be “upcoming travel disruption” at Manchester Airport, with almost 130 Unite members working for Aer Lingus UK being balloted.

“Aer Lingus is disappointed that cabin crew on its UK transatlantic routes are balloting for industrial action,” an Aer Lingus spokesperson told Airline Economics. “Aer Lingus negotiated in good faith with the Unite trade union, having regard to benchmarked market pay in the UK.”

The proposed offer would have increased pay by 12% over two years.

The spokesperson said: “Aer Lingus and Unite reached agreement on two separate comprehensive and market competitive pay deals, which Unite then recommended to its members."
