Aer Lingus has described the strikes planned by its cabin crew next week as “reckless and “unwarranted”.
The airline wrote to the cabin crew’s trade union Impact, urging an immediate withdrawal of the notice of strike action, which is planned for Monday June 16th and Wednesday June 18th.
Aer Lingus accused Impact of suggesting that management had walked out of talks last week which were aimed at resolving an ongoing dispute over work rosters.
The action could affect over 60,000 passengers, which will add to the approximately 30,000 that were affected by a similar strike by cabin crew in May.
Aer Lingus has also said that while its preference was to have an internal resolution mechanism in place, it would welcome the assistance of a third party in dealing with its dispute with cabin crew.
Irish Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar said the possibility of further industrial action at Aer Lingus was a matter of “grave concern”.
