Spanish airport operator Aena recorded around 77.4 million passengers in the first quarter of 2023, up 32.7% year-on-year and almost 2% more than in Q1 2019.
The Q1 2023 period saw 695,549 aircraft movements at Aena-run airports, up 1.5% on Q1 2019, while 336,909 tonnes of cargo were transported, about the same as 2019.
Aena recorded 23.8 million passengers in April, up 2.6% on 2019 and 16.4% more than in April 2022. Almost 16 million of the passengers flew internationally, down slightly on 2019 but up 17% year-on-year.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in April, with 4,8 million, with Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport next on 4.2 million, followed by Majorca on around 2.7 million.
