Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) has finalized an agreement to license Boeing engineering data to develop the 737-800 passenger-to-freighter conversion and the 737-800 combi conversion. The agreement with Boeing also includes the 737-900 variant engineering data.
AEI will become a Supplemental Type Certificate holder for the 737-800 passenger-to-freighter conversion and the 737-800 combi conversion. Because AEI will be an STC holder, working with licensed Boeing engineering data, AEI customers will now be eligible for access to Boeing technical support at reduced costs compared with freighters converted without data licensed from Boeing. (STCs are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration; Boeing does not review or approve licensees’ design packages or completed conversions).
AEI customers will enjoy these additional benefits:
1. Boeing will host AEI’s conversion drawings/data on the MyBoeingFleet.com web portal for one-stop online access for aircraft digital data.
2. Operators can utilize the Boeing field service network and Boeing Communication System to submit service requests.
3. A “conversion map” will quickly and efficiently determine whether a service request is to be answered by Boeing or AEI.
4. Boeing will provide data access to the STC holder in preparing for conversion of aircraft prior to delivery and is available to discuss STC holder questions related to safety related service bulletins that impact the modified aircraft.
