Abelo drops ATR STOL variant, opts for ATR 42-600s and ATR 72-600s

Turboprop lessor Abelo has dropped its order for 10 ATR 42 short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft variant, instead converting its order to a mix of five ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600, the company Additionally, the lessor firmed up orders for three ATR 72-600 aircraft, converting options agreed upon during the Dubai Airshow in 2023. 

The decision had been finalised at the end of last year. 

“This investment strengthens our ability to meet the evolving needs of regional aviation,” said Abelo chief executive officer Stephen Gorman. 

ATR CEO Nathalie Laude commented: “With delivery slots secured until 2029, this fleet expansion reaffirms the long-term collaboration between ATR and Abelo and underscores our shared vision of enhancing regional connectivity and providing top-tier air transportation solutions to passengers across diverse networks."

ATR said it will disclose additional orders “in the coming weeks” along with its full year 2024 results.
