In less than a year since AMR Corp filed for bankruptcy protection, the parent of American Airlines has spent $200 million in professional fees and expenses.
Law firms, financial advisers and other professionals involved in the airline reorganization have billed $191.4 million in fees and $9.2 million for expenses for a total of $200.6 million, according to court records.
Weil, Gotshal & Manges, the leading law firm in the airline bankruptcy, was singled out as the highest cost with bills for free reaching $48.8 million in fees and $1.9 million in expenses.
Law firms Debevoise & Plimpton and Paul Hastings were each named for their high bills, also.
More than three dozen professional firms are having their fees and expenses covered by AMR and American.
