AA and US unions agree to work together

The two unions that represent the majority of ground employees at American Airlines and US Airways announced yesterday that they have agreed to work together as those employees’ bargaining representative after the two carriers merge. The news from the Transport Workers Union and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers come as they face a representation battle from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The Teamsters announced recently that they’ve got enough signatures to seek a representation election at US Airways, and are about to turn in enough signatures to get an election at American.
It seems that AA and US are able to divide and rule on this merger if the status quo continues – Good news for investors, not so good for employees as their unions try to poach members from each other.
