Wizz Air expands long-haul operations with third A321XLR based at Gatwick

Wizz Air has allocated its third Airbus A321XLR aircraft to its London Gatwick base, strengthening its presence in the UK capital as it expands long-range narrowbody services.

The aircraft will be based at Gatwick from 1 September 2026, taking Wizz Air’s fleet at the airport to six aircraft and its total UK-based fleet to 21 aircraft, including 15 at London Luton.

The additional A321XLR will support increased frequencies on Wizz Air’s services from Gatwick to Jeddah, as well as higher capacity on short-haul routes to Valencia and Prague, both of which will move to daily operations from September.

The A321XLR enables Wizz Air to operate longer routes using single-aisle aircraft, opening up markets traditionally served by widebodies while reducing unit costs and emissions per seat.

Wizz Air plans to offer nearly 500,000 seats in 2026 on services to Saudi Arabia, including Jeddah and Medina, positioning the Middle East as a key growth market from London.
