Rumours that Qantas could cut engineering jobs have prompted the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association to warn that this could lead to industrial action. Union secretary Steve Purvinas said that in talks, Qantas management had discussed moves to shift some work from the union’s members to other, less-skilled workers and the airline said this could result in 128 redundancies.
Qantas has not commented directly on job losses, but claimed many of the rumours were ”pure speculation”.
