magniX launches electric engine for general aviation market

magniX has launched a new electric engine designed for the general aviation market, targeting smaller aircraft used for training and recreational flying.

The magniAIR engine will initially be deployed in a Van’s Aircraft RV-10 kit plane, with a first flight planned later this year and commercial availability expected in 2027. The engine delivers 175 kW of power at a weight of 55kg and is designed to integrate with magniX’s wider electric powertrain, including batteries and power electronics.

The US-based company, which develops electric propulsion systems for aircraft, said the new engine aims to reduce operating and maintenance costs while supporting lower-emission flight. Initial applications include light sport aircraft and pilot training, where rising fuel costs and ageing fleets are driving demand for alternative propulsion technologies.
