European private jet demand set to surge ahead of summer, ACC Aviation says

Private jet demand in Europe is expected to rise sharply heading into the summer travel season, with business aviation traffic typically increasing by as much as 70% between spring and the July peak, according to ACC Aviation.

Charlie Wilcox, director of charter at the London-based aircraft leasing specialist, said the seasonal pattern remains consistent despite broader market volatility. “We see this trend year after year. Private jet traffic begins to build in the spring and really accelerates into the summer,” he said, noting that even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the June to September period remained the strongest for business aviation.

Recent data points to steady underlying growth. Across Europe, flights including business jets and turboprops rose by 0.8% year-on-year in February, with activity up 0.6% year-to-date compared with the same period in 2025. Italy has emerged as a particularly strong market, with private aviation activity increasing by 20%, supported by seasonal demand linked to the ski season and Winter Olympics.

Europe continues to represent a relatively small share of the global private aviation market, accounting for 11.2% of business jet departures year-to-date in 2026, compared with 68.5% in North America. This marks a slight increase from 2025, when Europe accounted for 10.5% of departures. Within the region, the United Kingdom leads activity, followed by France, Germany and Italy.

Wilcox said shifting travel patterns are also influencing demand. “We are seeing a shift in customer behaviour, partly influenced by the situation in the Middle East,” he said, adding that more travellers are opting for private jets on intra-European routes where scheduled services may offer less comfort.

Rising fuel costs are also reshaping travel decisions. “We are already seeing clients who previously flew long-haul routes by private jet now choosing to travel via scheduled services to major hubs before continuing onwards by private aircraft,” Wilcox said, pointing to the increased cost of long-haul private flying.

Despite growing demand, aircraft availability remains stable across most categories, according to ACC Aviation. Wilcox said the company is generally able to source aircraft throughout the year, although prices tend to increase as the summer peak approaches.

Demand is strongest for light and midsize jets, including aircraft suited to short European sectors, while larger jets are used for longer journeys of up to six hours. Helicopters, however, remain a constrained segment during peak periods, particularly around major events such as Royal Ascot and Silverstone.

“With demand expected to follow the steady growth seen in recent years, we anticipate another busy summer season across Europe,” Wilcox said, adding that rising fuel costs remain a key risk to the outlook.
