Boeing has announced that China Eastern Airlines has committed to buy 80 B737s, including 737NG and 737 MAX aircraft.
When finalised, the order will be worth more than $8bn at current list prices.
Boeing VP of sales and marketing for NE Asia Ihssane Mounir said: "We look forward to making history with China Eastern as they are poised to make the largest purchase for single-aisle airplanes by a Chinese airline".
