ANA has revised its widebody aircraft order with Boeing, converting a porton of the deal for the larger 787-10 variant to the smaller 787-9 version.
The airline will now receive eight units of the larger variant, instead of 11 787-10s, and will receive three 787-9s instead.
Seven of the eight 787-10s have already been delivered, with the final scheduled for delivery sometime through fiscal 2026.
The three 787-9s are expected to be delivered in fiscal 2027.
“The company is changing models in the existing aircraft to expand the international passenger services (ANA brand) from now on,” said ANA in a stock filing.
This suggests ANA has opted for the slightly smaller and more flexible 787-9 variant on certain routes.
The 787-9 allows for around 7,565 nautical miles (14,010km), while the 787-10 can fly up to around 6,330 nautical miles (11,730km), according to Boeing's specifications.
ANA's 787-10 aircraft features a high-density 429-seat layout for high-demand domestic routes and a 294-seat configuration for international operations.
The airline group said that the 787-9 is 40bn Japanese yen (around $250 million) per aircraft at list price.
“The total investment in US dollar will be less than originally planned due to changes in aircraft model,” said ANA.
The company added that there are “no changes” to its guidance for fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.
